Well water treatment in Millcreek UT and across the valley starts with a simple fact: a private well gets no treatment from the city. Whatever is in the ground ends up in your glass. If you're dealing with orange stains in the toilet, a rotten-egg smell when you run hot water, or laundry that comes out dingy, you've probably tried bleach, stain removers and new fixtures already. None of it lasts because the problem is in the water. We fix it before the water reaches your house.

What Well Water Problems Do You Have?
Iron is one of the most common well water problems. It leaves orange and brown stains on sinks, tubs, toilets and laundry. Water may come out clear and then turn cloudy or rusty after it sits.
Sulfur is the second. Hydrogen sulfide gas gives water a rotten-egg smell that's often worst with hot water. It can also leave black stains on silverware and fixtures.
Well water is often hard too, so you can get scale on top of the stains. A regular softener alone can't handle much iron. The iron fouls the resin and the problem comes back.
Store-bought fixes like cartridge filters and chemical cleaners clog fast and don't touch the smell. Well water needs a system that breaks the iron and sulfur down first, then filters them out.
Some wells have iron bacteria, too. They're considered more of a nuisance than a health hazard, but they leave a reddish, slimy film in toilet tanks and can clog well systems. They're a sign you need a stronger treatment than a basic filter, and a certified lab test is the best way to confirm them.
It's also worth testing your well for bacteria and other contaminants through a certified lab, especially if you've never done it. Iron and sulfur are about taste, smell and stains. Bacteria are a health issue, and they need their own test.
Manganese is another mineral that sometimes shows up in wells. It leaves black or dark brown stains and can give water a bitter taste. An oxidizing filter can often remove it along with iron, which is another reason to test before choosing a system.
Our Well Water Treatment Services
For most wells with iron, we install an Iron Removal System that uses air injection. The system adds air to the water in a tank, which turns dissolved iron and sulfur into particles. A bed of catalytic carbon and specialty media then catches them. A second tank softens the water. It uses no chemicals, and it cleans itself on a set schedule.
For the toughest wells, we install Iron & Sulfur Removal with hydrogen peroxide injection. A small pump adds a measured dose of peroxide, which breaks down heavy iron, strong sulfur smell and iron bacteria. The water then passes through catalytic carbon and a softening tank. This is the system we recommend when the smell is strong or when air injection hasn't been enough.
Before we recommend either one, we test your water. Iron and sulfur levels tell us which system will work and how to set it up. Many wells also benefit from a Sediment Pre-Filter in front, to catch sand before it reaches the tanks.
Both systems include a softening tank, because well water is often hard too. The softener works much better once the iron is out, and it lasts longer because iron isn't fouling the resin. Both systems clean themselves on a schedule, and the programmable valves keep their settings through power outages.
We'll also tell you what upkeep to expect. Air-injection systems need very little. Peroxide systems need the solution tank refilled from time to time. We'll set up a schedule that fits your water.
Both systems use tall 10-inch by 60-inch tanks and a brine tank, so they need some floor space near where the water comes into your house. We'll look at your well house, garage or basement and plan the layout with you.
If your well pump is small or your pressure is low, we'll check that too, since treatment systems need enough flow to clean themselves properly.
Well Water Treatment for Wasatch Front Homes
Most homes in Millcreek and Salt Lake City are on city water.
