Herriman's Water: Why It's So Hard
Herriman City says its local wells usually measure between 25 and 60 grains per gallon, and that water from Herriman and several surrounding areas is very hard. The city blends its well water with water from the Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District.
Each winter Herriman switches almost entirely to Jordan Valley water, which the city says generally measures 12 to 15 grains per gallon. When outdoor watering picks up in spring, the system goes back to mixing in local well water. The city even suggests that residents adjust their softener settings when the source changes.
