The City of Orem's 2023 Consumer Confidence Report says about 60% of its water comes from surface water (the Provo River, Deer Creek Reservoir and Jordanelle Reservoir), 25% from nine deep wells and 15% from two mountain springs in Provo Canyon. It all gets blended in the city's system.
The same report lists hardness for the city's own sources at 7 to 25 grains per gallon, and 5.7 to 9.9 for the treated surface water. That's a wide range, and much of it is well into the very hard category.
